January 2014 Featured Artist- Ben Hughes

Who Is Ben Hughes?.
19-year-old Ben Hughes is a director, cinematographer, editor, visual effects artist, producer, and screenwriter who specializes in music videos, films, and commercials. He has extensive experience with a wide variety of equipment, and has filmed with cameras such the RED Scarlet, the 5D Mark III, all the way down to his own personal Canon T2i. In his home state of Minnesota, Hughes is often labeled "the best upcoming director in MN", and was even called a "filmmaking prodigy" on the New York Video School website by Huffington Post blogger Michael Rosenblum. Hughes got his first camera at just 12 years old, and began shooting music videos as a job when he was only 16.

Hughes has made dozens of short films throughout his life, for various film festivals, including the short film "Time Fax" which made it to the finals of the 2011 Cinema Out of Your Backpack film festival. His biggest film project yet, "Continuum", is currently in production, and consists of a 95-page screenplay that was written by Mr. Hughes himself.

On music videos, Hughes has worked with artists such as Chief Keef, Waka Flocka, Twista, Soulja Boy, Auburn, 50 Tyson, Riff Raff, Lil Durk, Rocky Diamonds, Fly Henderson, and more. Music video directing is his primary source of income.

In the area of commercial/promotional work, Hughes shot Minneapolis mayoral candidate Jackie Cherryhomes's campaign ad for television, and he worked closely with Interscope Records on Chief Keef's "Finally Rich" album promo video. In his younger years, Hughes was the go to guy for editing, VFX, and filming for smaller companies such as Sportsignings and Balvanz Enterprises.

On top of all that, Ben has done event videography for Mindless Behavior, Kirko Bangz, and Liquid Entertainment. He wrote, edited, and shot part of the upcoming 10 minute documentary on rapper Chief Keef called "Road 2 Glory". He practices photography (he even took the photo above), knows how to compose and produce music, and engineer/mix music at a professional level. However, photography and music are more like hobbies for Hughes, as most of his work hours are spent shooting and editing music videos, which leaves little time for much else.

With over 14 Million views on his YouTube channel, Ben Hughes is currently making a name for himself across the globe, and is actively pursuing his dreams to become the best filmmaker he can be.
